Abstract

The invention provides a method of and a system for measuring quality of audio and video stream transmissions over a transmission chain. The method comprises the steps of providing one or more measurement detectors along the transmission chain; detecting with the one or more measurement detectors the loss of packets at the one or more measurement point(s); determining the unique identifier for each detected lost packet; sending the list of lost packet identifiers to a central monitoring system; constructing, at the central monitoring system, from a stored error free stream and on the basis of the received lost packet identifiers, a simulated stream; and evaluating the simulated stream for deriving a quality score for the transmission along the transmission chain. An alternative embodiment of the invention uses a parametric description or reduced version of the stream stored in the central monitoring system, that is corrected or modified using the information received from the measurement detectors.
