Abstract

A cutting insert for an axial plunging operation includes a top surface, a side surface, a chamfer between the top surface and the side surface, and a cutting edge between the chamfer and the side surface. The chamfer increases in size from a first end of the cutting edge to a second end of the cutting edge so that the cutting edge forms a non-zero angle with a plane of the top surface when viewed parallel to a plane of the top surface. The cutting edge includes a working portion and two non-working portions, the two non-working portions being disposed on opposite sides of the working portion
