Abstract
A butterfly valve (10) comprises a housing including a bore (12), a rotatable shaft (16) passing through the bore (12), a disc (14) mounted to the shaft (16) for controlling the flow of a fluid through the bore (12), a thrust load reacting section (26) and a wear interface (30). The thrust load reacting section (26) includes a thrust plug (32) assembled in a thrust reacting end of the shaft (16) and a thrust plate (28) secured to the housing. The thrust plate (28) has a well (40) for axially retaining the thrust plug (32) and the thrust reacting end of the shaft (16). The wear interface (30) includes a first contact region on the thrust plug with a first contact surface (38B) and a second contact region at the base of the well (40) with a second contact surface (38A). A portion of the first contact surface (38B) is spherical and in contact with a portion of the second contact surface (38A).
