Abstract

The branch element (4) has an electrically conductive plate e.g. copper circular disk, which is mechanically borne by a superconducting cable unit. The plate comprises through slots (4E, 4E', 4E'') to form thermal conduction baffles, and an internal ring (4B) that is electrically connected to a superconducting cable and provided with orifices (4C) for passage of refrigerant e.g. liquid nitrogen. Deformable electrically conductive elements e.g. multi-contact platelets (4'), connect the internal ring to an external ring (4D) that bears an electrical connection element (4A) e.g. lug. An independent claim is also included for a superconducting cable unit.
