Abstract

A bicycle crank axle assembly has first and second crank arms (14, 16) that are attached to opposite ends of a crank axle (12). The ends of the crank axle (30, 32) are non-rotatably disposed in axle mounting openings (60, 70) of the first and second crank arms (14, 16). A first end portion (30) of the crank axle (12) has at least one axially extending first spline (36) that protrudes radially outward from an outer peripheral surface of its middle body portion (34). The at least one axially extending first spline (36) non-rotatably couples the crank axle (12) to the first crank arm (14) and prevents outward axial movement of the first crank arm (14) away from the second crank arm (16). The second end portion (32) of the crank axle (12) has at least one recess.
