Abstract

A slack adjuster (40) comprises a worm gear (42) configured to be coupled to a camshaft (14), a worm shaft (52) in engagement with the worm gear, and a housing (44) having a lever (34) configured for connection to a brake chamber output rod (32). The housing includes an opening that receives the worm gear and a blind bore (70) that receives the worm shaft. An adjustment assembly is installed within the blind bore and is coupled to the worm shaft. The adjustment assembly is configured to automatically rotate the worm shaft when brake slack exceeds a predetermined limit.
