Abstract

The invention relates to a method for warning the driver of a motor vehicle (1) about the presence of an object (5) in the surroundings (6) of the motor vehicle (1) by displaying images (BA) of the surroundings (6) on a display device of the motor vesicle (1), comprising the of: - capturing a camera image (BK) of the surroundings (6) by means of a camera (3) of the motor vehicle (1) and identifying the object (5) in the camera image (BK), - determining an expected trajectory (9) of the motor vehicle (1), - generating a display image (BA) based on the camera image (BK), wherein the display image (BA) shows a superimposed optical representation of the expected trajectory (9), and displaying the display image (BA) on the display device, - determining a current position of the object (5) relative to the expected trajectory (9), and - changing the optical representation of the trajectory (9) in the display image (BA) in dependency on the relative position.
