Abstract

Embodiments relate to an apparatus (100; 300) for a base station serving a cell of a wireless communication system, wherein the base station may be coupled to an antenna system (101; 310) operable to provide a first antenna directivity pattern (104-1) for a first region of the cell and a second antenna directivity (104-2) pattern for a second region of the cell, the apparatus (100; 300) comprising a transceiver (106) operable to transmit or receive a first signal to or from a mobile terminal (200) associated to the cell via the first antenna directivity pattern (104-1) and operable to transmit or receive a second signal to or from said mobile terminal (200) via the second antenna directivity pattern (104-2), and a classifier (108) operable to classify the mobile terminal (200), based on a wireless channel evaluation using the first and the second signal, as to whether the mobile terminal (200) may be associated to the first region of the cell or whether the mobile terminal (200) may be associated to the second region of the cell.
