Abstract

A method for executing an application in a computing apparatus having a plurality of computing nodes arranged in an n-dimensional network, where n is an integer greater than or equal to one, each computing node being configured to perform a plurality of processing threads simultaneously, and each computing node being connected to each of their neighbouring nodes via separate data communication links, each computing node having a plurality of communication engines operable, simultaneously, and enlisting different combinations of data communication links from one another, to communicate a stream of data to one or more destination nodes; the method comprising: executing the application at a particular computing node from among the plurality of computing nodes; including: detecting that a communication task including communicating data from the particular computing node to one or more destination computing nodes from among the plurality of computing nodes is to be executed; and selecting, in dependence upon a benchmarking process, a configuration of communication engines and processing threads per communication engine to allocate to executing the detected communication task.
