Abstract

A display device (100) includes a display panel (1), a plurality of light source units (7,7a,9) each composed of a light source (7,7a) and a diffusing lens (9), a flat optical member (11), a rear side support member (4), and a reflective sheet (10). The light source units (7,7a,9) are disposed on the rear side of the display panel (1) relative to the viewer or front side of the display device. The light source units (7,7a,9) irradiate the display panel (1) with light. The light source units (7a,9) closest to a rectangular edge portion (4a) of the rear side support member (4) are configured to emit light angularly distributed such that light of the maximum intensity is emitted under an angle La0 relative to the surface normal of the display device (100), and light of half of the maximum intensity is emitted under another angle La1 relative to the surface normal of the display device (100), and such that only light of not less than half of the maximum intensity reaches an edge portion (11c-11a) of the flat optical member (11). Thus, the edges of the display screen are prevented from being displayed darker.
