Abstract

A sewing machine includes a frame support portion that is adapted to be detachably mounted with a selected one of plurality of embroidery frames. Each of the embroidery frames has a holding portion that is adapted to hold a sewing workpiece. A type of the embroidery frame mounted on the frame support portion is detected (step S3). A sewing area is set inside the holding portion, corresponding to the type of the embroidery frame. The sewing area is an area in which stitches can be formed. Specifically, corresponding to the type of the embroidery frame, a size of the sewing area and a position and an angle of the sewing area with respect to the frame support portion is set (steps S4 to S11). An embroidery pattern to be sewn on the sewing workpiece is identified (step S2). A layout of the identified embroidery pattern is set, corresponding to the set sewing area (step S12).
