Abstract

A sewing machine includes a frame support portion (58), moving means (11), a movable member (70), and detecting means (47). The frame support portion is adapted to be detachably mounted with a mounting portion (390) of an embroidery frame (5). The mounting portion has a specific shape that corresponds to a type of the embroidery frame. The moving means is adapted to move the frame support portion. The movable member is adapted to move in a first direction by a movement amount corresponding to the type of the embroidery frame, in conjunction with an operation in which the mounting portion of the embroidery frame is mounted on the frame support portion. The detecting means is adapted to detect the movement amount of the movable member, and to detect the type of the embroidery frame mounted on the frame support portion based on the detected movement amount.
