A method (301) of monitoring usage of a component of an aircraft (101) can include: monitoring (303) a usage of the component by using a torque measurement system (201) to calculate torque events in a period of time; categorizing (305) the usage of the component by assigning a usage value based upon whether the number of torque events in the period of time is above or below a threshold; and determining (307) a life used of the component.
