Abstract

A tiltrotor aircraft (101) includes a fuselage (103); a wing member (109) having a first rib (185), a second rib (187), a first spar (195), second spar (197); and an upper wing skin (193); an engine (123) disposed at a fixed location relative to the wing member (109); and a proprotor (111-113) having a spindle gearbox (133), rotor mast (145), and a plurality of rotor blades (119, 121) drivable in rotation about the rotor mast (145), the spindle gearbox (133) being rotatable about a conversion axis (137). The spindle gearbox (133) is located above the upper wing skin (193) of the wing member (109).
