Abstract

A ram air turbine (100) having a turbine (102) with one or more blades (104), a strut (110) having a drive section (112) and a generator adapter section (114), a turbine shaft (126) and bevel gear (128) located within the drive section (112), a generator (140) positioned within the generator adapter section (114) of the strut (110) and comprising an exciter (146) and permanent magnet generator (148) in the a turbine side (180), and a driveshaft (134) having a pinion gear (132) that engages with the bevel gear (128), wherein the driveshaft (134) is removably coupled to the generator (140). The strut (110) includes a cone (182) positioned between the drive section (112) and the generator adapter section (114), and the permanent magnet generator (148) and the exciter (146) are positioned inside of the cone (182) of the strut (110). The generator (140) utilizes a generator cover (144) and a generator bearing (150), and the bearing (150) engages with the driveshaft (134) and the generator (140). The permanent magnet generator (148) and the exciter (146) are positioned within the cone (182) of the generator cover (144),
