Abstract

A tool and a cutting insert (200) for chip removing machining, wherein the tool comprises a tool body (101) with an insert seat (104), a cutting insert (200) securely mounted in the insert seat, and a fastening member (300). In its lower side (202), the cutting insert comprises a first locking member (211a) in the form of a locking groove/ridge extending in an area located outside of a central axis C2 of the cutting insert. A second locking member (108) configured to engage with the first locking member is provided in the insert seat. The fastening member extends through a through-hole (110) provided rotationally behind the insert seat and opening in the insert seat and bears on a lower contact region (213a) of the cutting insert. On one hand, it presses the cutting insert against a top support member (107) provided rotationally ahead of the insert seat so that the second and first locking members lock with each other and form a radial support for the cutting insert, and on the other hand it presses an axial support region provided in the side surface of the cutting insert against an axial contact surface (109) provided in the insert seat.
