Abstract
To provide a display device capable of making a display area and its surrounding area a uniform color when the display area is not active. A display device 100 includes a liquid crystal display device 20 having a display area and a hidden area surrounding the display area; a liquid crystal shutter 10 layered on the liquid crystal display device 20 and having a first area corresponding to the display area and a second area corresponding to the hidden area; and a control unit 200 for setting the first and second areas to a transparent state and an opaque state, respectively, when the display area is active, and setting the first and second areas to the opaque state when the display area is not active.
