Abstract

The method comprises the steps of: marking each door opening (DO1-DO4) in the elevator shaft (20) with door reflectors (DR1a-DR4a, DR1b-DR4b), and creating a reference coordinate system (K0) of the elevator shaft (20) with a robotic total station (600) positioned at a bottom (12) of the elevator shaft (20), measuring the position of the door reflectors (DR1a-DR4a, DR1b-DR4b) with the robotic total station (600), fitting straight door lines (DL1, DL2) to the measurements in order to form virtual plumb lines for the doors in the elevator shaft (20), marking predetermined guide rail positions (A2, B2) on the bottom (12) of the elevator shaft (20) and installing lowermost guide rails manually to the shaft (20) based on the guide rail positions (A2, B2), forming vertical guide rail lines (GL1, GL2) i.e. virtual plumb lines for the guide rails with the robotic total station (600) based on the door lines (DL1, DL2), providing an upwards and downwards movable installation platform (500) in the elevator shaft (20) provided with platform reflectors (PR1-PR3), measuring the position of the platform reflectors (PR1-PR3) with the robotic total station (600), whereby the orientation and the position of the installation platform (500) in relation to the elevator shaft (20) can be determined.
