Abstract
A surgical staple (1) for compressing bones or bone fragments, including a first leg (3) for anchoring in a first bone or bone fragment; a second leg (4) for anchoring in a second bone or bone fragment; a bridge (2) connecting the first leg (3) and the second leg (4), the bridge having a first end section (29) and a second end section (29') opposite the first end section (5), wherein the first leg (3) is connected to the first end section (29) and the second leg (4) is connected to the second end section (29'); wherein the bridge is arc-shaped in at least a portion thereof, and comprises at least one engagement portion (51, 52) for engagement by an external tool provided to bend the bridge in order to transfer the surgical staple from a relaxed state to an expanded state.
