Abstract

A device (100) for a vehicle and a data transmission system for a vehicle with such a device is provided. The device is configured to be reversibly coupled to a data bus (200) of a vehicle in order to transmit and receive data via the data bus (200), wherein the device (100) is configured to apply a current to the data bus (200), wherein the device (100) is configured to measure a voltage drop at the data bus as a result of the applied current, wherein the device (100) is configured to determine whether or not it is connected to the data bus based on the measured voltage drop. Thus, an impedance of the data bus can be measured in order to detect connection errors or the quality of the connection (10) between the device (100) and the data bus (200).
