Abstract
A hybrid electric locomotive (100) according to an embodiment includes an internal combustion engine (1), a dynamo (2), a converter (3), an inverter (5), a direct current link (4), a battery (8), a first map (T1), and a controller (9). The dynamo (2) is connected with the internal combustion engine (1) and capable of converting power of the internal combustion engine (1) into alternating current power. The converter (3) is connected with the dynamo (2) and capable of converting the alternating current power of the dynamo (2) into direct current power. The inverter (5) is capable of converting the direct current power into alternating current power. The direct current link (4) connects the converter (3) and inverter (5). The battery (8) is electrically connected with the direct current link (4). The first map (T1) stores therein a correspondence relationship between an upper limit of output power of the battery (8) and a temperature and a state of charge of the battery (8). The controller (9) controls the internal combustion engine (1) and the dynamo (2) in accordance with the temperature and the state of charge of the battery (8) so that the output power of the battery (8) is not higher than the upper limit stored in the first map (T1).
