Abstract

A technology is disclosed for controlling the function of a pneumatic valve actuator (14). The piston (22) of the valve actuator (14) is biased to be in first state (44) and move to a second state (46) when pressurized. A conduit (28) connects the pressure side (24) and non-pressure sides (26) of the valve actuator (14) for supplying the non-pressure side (26) of the valve actuator (14) with gas from the pressure side (24) of the valve actuator (14). A control valve (30) is connected to the conduit (28) for controlling a release of gas from the pressure side (24) of the valve actuator (14). The valve controller (14) also has pressure-relief valve (32) connected to the conduit (28) between the control valve (30) and the non-pressure side (26) of the valve actuator (14) for reducing the pressure in the conduit (28).
