Abstract
A hobbing tool (21) includes a hob body (23) including at least one axially extending slot (25), and at least one cassette (27) removably disposed in the at least one slot (25). The at least one cassette (27) includes at least one seating recess (29) having at least a bottom abutment surface (31) and two side abutment surfaces (33, 35), and at least one cutting insert (37) is removably mounted in the at least one seating recess (29), the at least one cutting insert (37) having at least one bottom supporting surface (39) and two side supporting surfaces (41, 43) that abut the bottom abutment surface (31) and the two side abutment surfaces (33, 35) when the at least one cutting insert (37) is received in the at least one seating recess (29).
