Abstract

A friction wheel assembly is provided which includes a friction wheel (31), a bracket (23), a pivot arm (16), a pair of guide rods (20), and elastic members (33) supported by the respective guide rods (20), and biasing the bracket (23) in the direction in which the friction wheel (31) comes into elastic contact with a driving wheel (1) and a driven wheel (2). The friction wheel assembly is configured such that if the contact pressure of the friction wheel (31) against the driving wheel (1) differs from the contact pressure thereof against the driven wheel (2), the pivot arm (16) and the bracket (23) pivot due to the reaction force applied to the friction wheel (31) from one of the driving and driven wheels against which the contact pressure is higher, thereby equalizing the contact pressure of the friction wheel (31) against the driving wheel (1) and the contact pressure thereof against the driven wheel (2).
