Abstract

A rubber composition for use in a tire tread is disclosed comprising, based on parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of elastomer (phr): (A) at least one conjugated diene-based elastomer; (B) from 5 to 60 phr of a triglyceride ester based on a soybean oil comprising saturated and unsaturated fatty acid esters, where its unsaturated fatty acid esters comprise a combination of mono-unsaturated oleic acid ester, di-unsaturated linoleic acid and tri-unsaturated linolenic acid esters, wherein said oleic acid ester comprises at least 65 percent of said fatty acid esters; (C) from 30 to 140 phr of a reinforcing filler comprising: (1) carbon black, or (2) silica, preferably precipitated silica, or (3) a combination of carbon black and silica together with a,silica coupling agent for the silica having a moiety reactive with hydroxyl groups on the silica and another different moiety interactive with said diene-based elastomer(s).
