Abstract
A method is suggested for sensing light being incident on an electronic device. The electronic device comprises a display (11) and a light sensor arrangement (12) mounted behind the display (11) such as to receive incident light through the display. The method comprises periodically switching the display (11) on and off depending on a control signal (CS), wherein a period (PD) is defined by a succession of an on-state (ON) and an off-state (OFF) of the display (11). A sensor signal (INT) is generated by integrating the incident light by means of the light sensor arrangement (12) for a total integration time (T_INT) comprising a number of periods (PD). A first signal count (Dn+An) is determined from the sensor signal (INT) being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during an on-state (ON). A second signal count (An) is determined from the sensor signal (INT) being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during an off-state (OFF). A third signal count (Aint+Dint) is determined from the sensor signal (INT) being indicative of an amount of integrated incident light during the total integration time (T_INT). Finally, an ambient light level (A) is determined depending on the first, second and third signal counts (Dn+An, An, Aint+Dint).
