Abstract

An exterior aircraft light unit (2) comprises a housing (4), at least one light source (10), and a heat sink (16, 20). The heat sink (16, 20) includes at least one first heat sink portion (16) and at least one second heat sink portion (20). The at least one light source (10) is thermal connected with the at least one first heat sink portion (16) for transferring heat from the at least one light source (10) to the at least one first heat sink portion (16); and the at least one second heat sink portion (20) is configured to be selectively attachable to the at least one first heat sink portion (16).
