Abstract

A fan blade (60) includes first and second portions (62,64) that are secured to one another and provide a cavity (76). The first and second portions (62,64) form an exterior airfoil surface that extends in a radial direction from a root (67) to a tip (69) and in a chord-wise direction from a leading edge (70) to a trailing edge (72). Radial ribs (74) extend in a radial direction from the root (67) toward the tip (69) and are spaced apart from one another in the chord-wise direction. First and second angled ribs (78,80) intersect one another at a first apex (88). The radial ribs (74) intersect at least one of the first and second angled ribs (78,80). The first and second angled ribs (78,80) are at an angle relative to one of the radial ribs (74). The angle is in a range of 45° +/- 30°. A method of designing a fan airfoil is also provided.
