Abstract

A nacelle (250; 350; 450; 550) may comprise an inlet cowling (202; 302; 402; 502) comprising an inlet cowling aft edge (210; 310; 410; 510) having an aft edge length; a boat tail cowling (230; 330; 430; 530) comprising a boat tail cowling forward edge (224; 324; 424; 524) having a forward edge length, wherein the boat tail cowling forward edge (224; 324; 424; 524) is disposed adjacent to the inlet cowling aft edge (210; 310; 410; 510). The forward edge length may be shorter than the aft edge length, forming a step (212; 312; 412; 512) being defined by a portion of the inlet cowling aft edge (210; 310; 410; 510) that is radially outward of the boat tail cowling forward edge (224; 324; 424; 524). The nacelle (250; 350; 450; 550) may further comprise a transition fairing (220; 320; 420; 520) coupled to the boat tail cowling (230; 330; 430; 530), wherein the transition fairing (220; 320; 420; 520) comprises a fairing forward edge disposed adjacent to the inlet cowling aft edge (210; 310; 410; 510) and a fairing ramp surface (222; 322; 422; 522) spanning between the inlet cowling aft edge (210; 310; 410; 510) and a boat tail cowling external surface (232; 332; 432; 532).
