Abstract

A vibration wave actuator (10) has a vibration member (11) including an elastic member (11a) and an electro-mechanical energy transducer (11b), and a contact member (12) in contact with the vibration member (11), and the contact member (12) and the vibration member (11) move relative to each other. The vibration wave actuator (10) includes a detected portion (14) configured to move, together with the contact member (12), relative to the vibration member (11), and a detection unit (13) configured to move, together with the vibration member (11), relative to the contact member (!2) to detect displacement information or position information for the detected portion (14). The vibration member (11) has two projections (11c) provided side by side in a direction intersecting with the direction of the relative movement. The contact member (12) contacts the two projections (11c). The detection unit (13) and the detected portion (14) are located between the contact member (12) and the vibration member (11) when viewed from the direction of the relative movement.
