Abstract
The present invention provides a novel technique (Quick-SIC) for detecting information bits in a superposition of two or more modulated signals. According to a first aspect of the invention, log-likelihood ratios for codebits of a first modulated signal are computed and used as a priori information for demapping codebits of the second modulated signal. The codebits of the second modulated signal can thus be decoded without having to re-code and re-modulate the codebits of the first modulated signal. According to a second aspect, a hybrid demodulation technique is provided that estimates the mutual information between codebits and log-likelihood ratios, and selectively applies either conventional SIC or Quick-SIC, depending on whether or not the mutual information exceeds a certain threshold value.
