Abstract

A cooling assembly includes walls (16, 18) extending around and defining an enclosed vapor chamber (20) that holds a working fluid (22). An interior porous wick structure (23) is disposed inside the chamber (20) and lines interior surfaces of the walls (16, 18). The wick structure (23) includes pores (708, 1900) that hold a liquid phase of the working fluid (22). The cooling assembly also includes an exterior wick structure lining (723) exterior surfaces of the walls (16, 18) outside of the vapor chamber (20). The wick structure (723) includes pores (708, 1900) that hold a liquid phase of a cooling fluid (28) outside the vapor chamber (20). The interior wick structure (23) holds the liquid working fluid (22) until heat from an external heat source (100) vaporizes the working fluid (22) inside the vapor chamber (20). The wick structure (723) holds the liquid fluid outside the vapor chamber (20) until heat from inside the vapor chamber (20) vaporizes the liquid cooling fluid (28) in the wick structure (723) for transferring heat away from the heat source (100).
