Abstract

A surgical device comprising: a closure assembly (32) including: (a) a latch unit (61) comprising: (A) a hook latch (60) , having a home position, (B) a forward bias constraint (38A) , (C) a rearward bias constrain (38B) , and (D) a bias member (54) extending between the forward bias constraint (38A) and the rearward bias constraint (38B) so that the bias member (54) has a pre-load when the hook latch (60) is in the home position; (b) a movement unit (50) including a bar (36) that is movable relative to the latch unit (61) so that the bar (36) is movable in a prescribed motion into contact with the latch unit (61) to create a locked state; and wherein the bar (36) moves into contact with the hook latch (60) driving the hook latch (60) in a first direction, away relative to the home position, and then the hook latch (60) is moved by the bar (36) in a second direction relative to the home position, and a loading of the bias member (54) is increased from the pre-load when the hook latch (60) is moved in either the first direction away from the home position or the second direction away from the home position.
