Abstract

A brush seal (48a,48b;48a';48a";48a"';48a"") is provided that includes a top plate (58), a back plate (56), and a bristle pack (60). The bristle pack (60) is secured at a joint (62) between the top plate (58) and the back plate (56). The bristle pack (60) includes a first bristle set (70) extending from the joint (62), a second bristle set (72) extending from the joint (62), and a sliding backing plate (62;64';64"). The sliding backing plate (62;64';64") includes a sliding portion (76) and a support portion (74). The sliding portion (76) is disposed contiguous with the second bristle set (72). The support portion (74) has an inner face (78) and a support face (80). The inner face (78) is in contact with a distal end of the second bristle set (72). The support face (80) is configured to support at least a portion of the first bristle set (70). The sliding backing plate (62;64';64") is configured to slide relative to the second bristle set (72).
