Abstract

The present disclosure provides a method of removing a bearing compartment (38-5, 38-6) from a gas turbine engine (20) comprising inserting a tool (200) between an aft portion (100) of a low pressure turbine (120) and a forward portion (134) of a turbine exhaust case (130), the tool (200) comprising one of a single wedge-shaped ring or a plurality of wedge-shaped segments, removing a plurality of fasteners coupling a flange (152) of a bearing compartment housing (150) to the turbine exhaust case (130), the bearing compartment housing (150) containing the bearing compartment (38-5, 38-6), and removing the bearing compartment housing (150) from an aft portion (100) of the gas turbine engine (20).
