Abstract
A valve assembly (200) is provided, the valve assembly comprising a body (202) that defines a fluid flow path between an inlet (201) and an outlet (203). A frangible member (210) is disposed between the inlet (201) and the outlet (203) across the fluid flow path so as to block fluid flow between the inlet (201) and the outlet (203). The valve assembly further comprises a means for rupturing (209) the frangible member (210) to allow fluid flow between the inlet (201) and the outlet (203) and a means for biasing (211) the rupturing means (209) into contact with the frangible member (210) to cause rupture of the frangible member (210) and a means for retaining (204) the rupturing means (209) away from the frangible member (210). A magnet (206) is spaced apart from the retaining means (204); and a non-magnetic sleeve (207) is disposed between the magnet (206) and the retaining means (204). The non-magnetic sleeve is configured to block a magnetic field provided by the magnet (206). The valve assembly is further provided with a means for removing (208) the non-magnetic sleeve, wherein, when the non-magnetic sleeve (207) is removed, in use, the magnetic field attracts the retaining means (204) to release the rupturing means (209) to cause rupture of the frangible member (210).
