Abstract
A gas turbine engine (20) includes a shaft (75) rotatable about an axis (A), a bearing (62) disposed about the shaft (75) and within a bearing compartment (60), and a seal assembly (68) positioned to seal the bearing compartment (60). The seal assembly (68) includes a fixed seal (74) and a seal runner (72) rotatable with the shaft (75). The seal runner (72) has a first axial face (82) and a second axial face (86) axially opposite the first axial face (82) with respect to the axis (A). The first axial face (82) includes a first surface (80) rotatable against the seal (74), and the second axial face (86) includes a trough portion (94). A second surface (93) is angled relative to a radial baseline plane (105) defined perpendicular to the axis (A), and a dam (96) between the trough portion (94) and the second surface (93). An oil source (64) is positioned to provide oil into the trough portion (94).
