Abstract

An assembly (100) includes a first mold component (102A) defining a first portion (139) of a mold cavity (118) and a first slot (122A). The first slot (122A) corresponds to a first portion (139) of a retention channel (214). The assembly (100) also includes a second mold component (102B) defining a second portion (137) of the mold cavity (118) and a second slot (122B). The second slot (122B) corresponds to a second portion (137) of the retention channel (214). The assembly (100) also includes a connector (104A, 104B, 104) having a cross-sectional shape corresponding to a cross-sectional shape of the retention channel (214). The connector (104A, 104B, 104) has thermal expansion characteristics that are different from thermal expansion characteristics of the first and second mold components (102A) such that when the first and second mold components (102A) are in contact and the connector (104A, 104B, 104) is inserted into the retention channel (214), heating the assembly (100) causes differential thermal expansion of the connector (104A, 104B, 104) and the mold components (102, 202) resulting in a clamping force (222) between the mold components (102, 202).
