Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for performing tape layup inspection, comprising:laying up lanes of tape onto a surface of a laminate (202);applying heat to tack the lanes of tape to the surface (204);generating thermographic images of the lanes of tape as applied to the laminate (206);analyzing contrast within the thermographic images to identify the lanes of tape (1002);reviewing an interior of each of the lanes of tape for differences in temperature (1004);reviewing a boundary of each of the lanes of tape for inconsistencies in shape (1006);determining that a layup inconsistency exists (1008); andcategorizing the layup inconsistency based upon at least one of a size of the layup inconsistency, a shape of the layup inconsistency, or a difference in temperature at the layup inconsistency (1010).
