Abstract

A surgical instrument (27000), comprising: a handle ( 27100 ) comprising a grip ; a shaft ( 27200 ) extending distally from said handle ( 27100 ) , wherein said shaft ( 27200 ) defines a longitudinal axis (L); a rotation joint rotatably connecting said shaft ( 27200 ) to said handle ( 27100 ) , wherein said rotation joint permits said shaft ( 27200 ) to be rotated relative to said handle ( 27100 ) about said longitudinal axis (L); and a shaft rotation actuator system comprising: a rotatable actuator (27220) positioned distally with respect to said grip and below said shaft ( 27200 ) ; and a rotatable drive gear (27225), wherein said rotatable drive gear (27225) is meshingly engaged with said shaft (27200) , wherein said shaft (27200) is rotated in a first direction when said rotatable actuator (27225) is rotated in a first direction, and wherein said shaft (27200) is rotated in a second direction when said rotatable actuator (27225) is rotated in a second direction.
