Abstract

A device (1) for embossing a braille code (2) in a substrate (3) includes a first embossing element (4) comprising a set of studs (8a, 8b, 8c, 8d). Each stud (10) is movable between extended and retracted positions. The device (1) further comprises a setting unit (12) for putting studs (10) of a respective subset (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d) of the set of studs (8a, 8b, 8c, 8d) to the extended or retracted positions. The setting unit (12) includes a manipulating mechanism (14) for manipulating at least one stud (10) of the respective subset (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d), and a controller (15) for processing information relating to a predetermined position pattern of the studs (10) of the respective subset (13a, 13b, 13c, 13d) and to control operation of the manipulating mechanism (14). The manipulating mechanism (14) is movably arranged with respect to the first embossing element (4).
