Abstract

A power supply circuit (200) comprises a push-pull portion (214) comprising a transformer (234). First and second terminals of the primary winding are each connected to ground via first and second switches (Q1, Q2). An inductor (212) is connected between an input voltage (V_in) and the centre tap on the primary winding of the transformer (234) via a third switch (Q3). An energy storage portion (216) is connected between the primary winding and ground, and to the inductor via a fourth switch (Q4). A controller (226) is arranged to monitor the input voltage (V_in) and to apply partially overlapping first and second PWM signals to the first and second switches (Q1, Q2). When the input voltage (V_in) is between first and second thresholds, the controller (226) closes the third switch (Q3) and opens the fourth switch (Q4). Above the second threshold, the controller (226) applies a third PWM signal to the third switch (Q3) and opens the fourth switch (Q4). Below the first threshold, the controller (226) closes the third switch (Q3) and applies a fourth PWM signal to the fourth switch (Q4).
