Abstract
A method of controlling the speed of a direct current electric powered pump (2) uses pulse width modulation of the voltage applied to the pump (2). The speed of the pump (2) is increased by increasing the ratio of the pulse width to the time period of one cycle of the pulse width modulation to a target ratio over a time interval that is not dependent on the target ratio.
