Abstract

One embodiment is an electric drive system including a plurality of redundant motors (1202), wherein power generated by the plurality of motors (1202) is used to drive a rotor system comprising a rotor shaft (1204) having a plurality of rotor blades connected thereto via a swashplate (1220); a gear box (1205) associated with the plurality of redundant motors (1202); a cyclic actuation system (1218) for controlling an individual pitch of the rotor blades connected to the swashplate (1220); and at least one structural element (1101) for retaining the redundant motors (1202), the gear box (1205), and the cyclic actuation system (1218) together as a single integrated unit.
