Abstract

An apparatus (100) for consolidating fiber-reinforced resin material comprises a housing (102) comprising a barrel (104) and a receptacle (108). The receptacle (108) comprises a base (126), a lid (128), positionable relative to the base (126) and the barrel (104) such that the housing (102) is open or closed, and a de-gassing port (120). The apparatus (100) comprises a gasket (130) in contact with the lid (128), the base (126), and the barrel (104) when the housing (102) is closed and a piston (114), movable between a retracted position, in which the entire piston (114) is in the barrel (104), and an extended position, in which the piston (114) is in the receptacle (108) and in the barrel (104). The apparatus (100) comprises a seal (132) in contact with the piston (114) and the barrel (104), and a drive system (148) for controlling movement of the piston (114).
