Abstract

A sensing device (200) for determining a freshness status of a food item (105) placed within a receptacle (101) of a storage container (100). The sensing device (200) comprises a gas sensor (103) configured to capture sensor data regarding gas comprised within the receptacle (101). Furthermore, the sensing device (200) comprises a user interface (311) configured to allow a user to indicate a type of the food item (105) placed within the receptacle (101). In addition, the sensing device (200) comprises a control unit (315) configured to enable determination of the freshness status of the food item (105) based on the sensor data provided by the gas sensor (103) and based on the indication of the type of the food item (105) provided by the user interface (311).
