A method (200, 300) and apparatus (190) for forming a rotor (52) for an electric machine includes serially adding (202) layers (171, 172, 173, 174) of material to form a rotor body (100) (100) having a radially-extending post (108) configured to receive a set of electrically-conductive windings (115), and also having a radially-extending winding end turn support (161, 162) formed contiguously from the rotor body (100).
