Abstract

A method and a system for tracking missed tassels left by a detasseling machine (101) is disclosed. The method comprising: capturing (305) rear-facing image data by a camera (113) positioned on a main vehicle body (103) of the detasseling machine (101) with a field of view behind the detasseling machine (101); applying (307) image processing to the rear-facing image data to quantify a missed tassel metric for a geospatial area based on the rear-facing image data; and displaying (313) an indication of the missed tassel metric for the geospatial area to an operator of the detasseling machine (101). The system comprising: a rear-facing camera (113) positioned on a main vehicle body (103) of the detasseling machine (101) with a field of view behind the detasseling machine (101); a display screen (227) positioned within an operator cab (107) of the detasseling machine (101); and an electronic controller (201) configured to receive rear-facing image data captured by the rear-facing camera (113), apply image processing to the rear-facing image data to quantify a missed tassel metric for a geospatial area based on the rear-facing image data, and transmit a signal to the display screen (227) causing the display screen (227) to output an indication of the missed tassel metric for the geospatial area.
