Abstract

An airfoil (60) includes an airfoil wall (62) that defines a leading end (62a), a trailing end (62b), and pressure and suction sides that join the leading end (62a) and the trailing end (62b). The airfoil wall (62) includes a wishbone-shaped fiber layer structure (66) that has a pair of arms (66a) that merge into a single leg (66c). The pair of arms (66a) are formed by first and second S-shaped fiber layers (68a, 68b) each of which is comprised of a network of fiber tows (70). The first and second S-shaped fiber layers (68a, 68b) merge to form the single leg (66c). The single leg (66c) comprises fiber tows (70) from each of the first and second S-shaped fiber layers (68a, 68b) that are interwoven, and the single leg (66c) forms at least a portion of the trailing end (62b) of the airfoil wall (62).
