Abstract

An electric cooking appliance (100) includes a glass-ceramic substrate (110) having a top surface (112) for supporting cookware for heating thereon, and a bottom surface (114) opposite the top surface (112). The electric cooking appliance (100) includes a plurality of thermoresistive heating elements (200) disposed and spaced apart on the bottom surface (114) of the glass-ceramic substrate (110), with each of the plurality of thermoresistive heating elements (200) including graphene nanoparticles embedded in a ceramic matrix for generating heat upon application of electric current to the respective thermoresistive heating element (200). Each thermoresistive heating element (200) is electrically connected to a power supply such that one or more of the plurality of thermoresistive heating elements (200) are selectively activated to receive electric current to heat localized areas (130) of the glass-ceramic substrate (110).
